I am new to Backup and recovery, Can anybody suggest.
If my system datafile gets corrupt, do I need to restore and recover complete database or just datafile restore will be suffice.
In case the database is running on archive log mode.
Waiting for reply.
Thanks & Regards,
restore tablespace system
recover tablespace system
say system datafile is deleted by mistake.
So do I have to restore and recover just the datafile missing, or the complete database.
You can restore just the system datafile and then recover the database.
Are you using RMAN? If so then you can just issue
RMAN> restore tablespace system;
RMAN> recover tablespace system;
Besides the fact that the recovery of System tabllespace or datafile is no different than doing a standard restore and recover of it from the backup but one thing that stands it out is that the recovery is going to be a closed database recovery . So if you have the system tablespace or datafile lost, do a shut abort of the db and then attempt the recovery.
