Hi,

First question:

when I listed ASM disks I came across some of them that have no name and belongs to group_number 0. I don't know what it is. Is it possible to drop them somehow?

My second question:

Recently I droped disk SPBUFOR2_F2 from diskgroup SPBUFOR2_FLASH and then I tried to bring him back but an error occured:
alter diskgroup SPBUFOR2_FLASH add disk '/dev/oracleasm/disks/SPBUFOR2_F2' name SPBUFOR2_F2;

ERROR at line 1:
ORA-15032: not all alterations performed
ORA-15020: discovered duplicate ASM disk "SPBUFOR2_F2"
Mapping is good for sure

These are disks in /dev/oracleasm/disks:
CSA_D1  CSA_F1  SPBUFOR2_D1  SPBUFOR2_D3  SPBUFOR2_F2  SPBUFOR_D2  SPBUFOR_F1
CSA_D2  CSA_F2  SPBUFOR2_D2  SPBUFOR2_F1  SPBUFOR_D1   SPBUFOR_D3  SPBUFOR_F2
Can an existance of that strange disks from question 1 influence this error? Could you help me?

    Hi;

    I suggest close your issue here as answered than move your issue Forum Home » High Availability » Automatic Storage Management which is ASM dedicated forum site.

    Please verify following
    1) Parameter asm_diskstring. This has to be something like 'ORCL:*'
    2) Check rpm -qa | grep oracleasm
    3) Check alert.log of both asm instance.

    Cause of this is

    $GRID_HOME/gpnp/<hostname>/profiles/peer/profile.xml on both the nodes have following entry

    DiscoveryString="/dev/oracleasm/disks/ASM*

    Solution is provided in Metalink>
    V$ASM_DISK View Shows Both "ORCL:*" & "/dev/oracleasm/disks/*" Paths On 11.2 Release. [ID 1410243.1]

    *My second question:*

    Recently I droped disk SPBUFOR2_F2 from diskgroup SPBUFOR2_FLASH and then I tried to bring him back but an error occured:

    {code}
    alter diskgroup SPBUFOR2_FLASH add disk '/dev/oracleasm/disks/SPBUFOR2_F2' name SPBUFOR2_F2;

    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-15032: not all alterations performed
    ORA-15020: discovered duplicate ASM disk "SPBUFOR2_F2"
    {code}
    You need to give 'FORCE' option when adding disk back.
    alter diskgroup SPBUFOR2_FLASH add disk '/dev/oracleasm/disks/SPBUFOR2_F2' name SPBUFOR2_F2 FORCE;

    Or

    Format the disk which was dropped earlier with 'dd' command (this will format its header as well)
    Then add disk to diskgroup (force option is not necassary here)

    And

    Hi,

    For First question GROUP_NUMBER=0 indicates disks that do not belong to a mounted disk group. Include Mount_status in the query to verify the same. So its good to drop.

    For second question please post

    Show parameter string
    select nvl(name,’NONAME’) as name , path, header_status, total_mb, free_mb from v$asm_disk

    Thank You,

    Hi,

    We have the same problem in 11.2 version. half of the disks are "closed",, but they are members of the group.

    did you resolve the problem? what did you do?

    thanks and regards
