    Opatch document

    user244214 - oracle
      Hi,

We currently use sql scripts/java files to apply patch.
We want to use Opatch utility by Oracle for our product.
Patch involves sql files execution and complete deployment of web layer (jsp, java, js etc)
Also looking for rollback in case of failure.
We would like to know how we can create Opatch for the mentioned requirement.
      Any document available for this.

      Please let us know.

      Regards,
      Prasad

            Hi Srini,

            Thanks for reply.

OS is AIX 5.3 or AIX 6.0
            DB version is 11g r2

We have requirement that we would create Patch involving sql files execution and complete deployment of web layer (jsp, java, js etc),
            rollback in case of failure.
Patch here would be rar/zip/tar file.
We would like to use Opatch utility to apply our custom set of files.
So what are steps to accompllish this requirement?
            Please suggest.

            Regards,

OPatch is a proprietary utility to apply Oracle database patches - AFAIK, it cannot be customized to apply patches for your application. Is this a custom built application ? If so, you will need to write custom scripts to deploy/patch your application.

                Hi Srini,

                Thanks for your reply.
                What you mean by AFAIK?
                Yes its custom built application.
Did you mean that custom scripts can be used in Opatch utility?
The custom built application is under Oracle flagship.
So we wanted integrate the patching process with Opatch utility.
Hope i have stated my requirement correctly.

                Please suggest.

                Thanks & Regards,

Not sure what you mean by "custom scripts can be used in Opatch utility". I mean that Opatch can be invoked by custom scripts.

Pl elaborate more on what you are wanting to patch. Opatch can only be use to apply database patches.

                    Hi Srini,

                    Thanks for reply.
We want Opatch to apply our jsp/js/jars and do db script execution.
so we wanted these custom activity to be done by Opatch for our product.
This product is a oracle financial product.
                    Please suggest.

As stated above, you cannot use OPatch to apply your custom scripts/patches.

                        Hi Srini,

Thanks for all your info. It was very helpful and useful.

I would like have info on interim patches (one off) for specific defects.

So can you please guide us how to design Interim Patches.

I am only aware of structure

Patch ID --> etc , files, custom
                        etc --> config, xml
files --> files to be affected by opatch
custom --> for pre, post sql scripts execution.

but i am not aware of payload, patch metadata , custom usage.
Is there any document describing creation of interim patch with a example?
Most files in interim patch are xml based, would like to know the meaning of xml tags inside the files. any documents explaining these.
                        Please let me know.
                        Thanks in advance.

                        Regards,

Are you asking how to design/create custom patches that can be applied using OPatch ? If so, I do not believe Oracle releases such information since it is a proprietary utility.
