    DG Broker

    788793
      Hi All,

      Using Oracle 11gR2 Enterprise Edition. Implemented Data Guard in the Disaster Recovery (DR) Centre.

      Now to automate the switchover, failover, monitoring plan to implement Data Guard Broker and the Observer.

      1> I have a full licence for the Oracle 11gR2 Enterprise Edition on DR server. Do I need any additional license for the DG Broker and Observer?

      2> Do I need to set up the Observer on a different server than where DG is set up? If yes then what hardware specs do I need?
      Can a low-end server/pc to the job ?

          No. You are good.

          Should be a third server at a third location. Would use UPS. Could be a simple workstation on UPS. Pretty much a simple as an Oracle client setup.

          You can run as a background process using something like this :
          #!/bin/ksh
          # startobserver
          export ORACLE_BASE=/app/opt/oracle
          export ORACLE_HOME=/app/opt/oracle/DB_Home/11.2
          export PATH=”${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:${PATH}:${ORACLE_HOME}/bin/:${ORACLE_HOME}/OPatch/”

          dgmgrl -logfile db << eof
          connect sys/syspassword@primdb
          STOP OBSERVER;
          START OBSERVER;
          eof
          Best Regards
