Although you have enough disk space on your external HDD for the requirements (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18727_01/doc.121/e12842/T422699i4773.htm#3708195), you cannot use Win 7 to install R12, and you do not have enough RAM.
One option is to install Virtualbox (from http://www.virtualbox.org), create a Linux VM, download OEL 5 (from http://linux.oracle.com) and install OEL 5 in the VM, then install R12 in the OEL 5 VM.
Expect this install process to be extremely slow - it will probably will take more than a day to complete, assuming you do not run into errors. Once you do install R12, the host and guest systems will be unusable because you do not have enough RAM. You will need at least 6G, with 8G or 12G preferable. Also, external HDD is much slower to access than internal hard disk, so that also is an issue.

Windows 7 Professional on LaptopWindows 7 is not certified as an application tier node or as a database tier node. The list of supported Windows OS can be found in (Oracle E-Business Suite Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.1.1) for Microsoft Windows Server (32-bit) [ID 761567.1]). If you want to use Linux, you can find the list of supported OS in the Linux docs referenced in [ID 850008.1].
Windows 7 can be your host OS, and pick one of the supported Windows/Linux to be your guest OS. You can use VMWare to install a supported OS and lay down the R12 software on this VM.
HDD - 100gbYou have sufficient space so you should be good -- The total space required for a standard system (not including the stage area) is 85 GB for a fresh install with a production database, and 233 GB for a fresh install with a Vision Demo database. Running Rapid Install from a stage area requires at least 47 GB to accommodate the file system and database files in the stage area.
External HDD - 500gb
You can still install EBS R12 on an external HDD with no issues.
Ram- 2gbYou need at least 4 GB for the R12 instance, and more RAM for the OS, so please consider adding more RAM.

What about installing win2003 instead of Linux as a guest on a virtual box while retaining win7 as the host OS, then mount R12 on the guest?
This is based on the assumption that the ram will be upgraded to 4gb and the hdd to 300 or400.
Do you forsee any issues wiith this ?

If you want to migrate to 64-bit later, you need to install Windows 2008 -- Migrating Oracle E-Business Suite R12 to Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 [ID 1188535.1]
This is based on the assumption that the ram will be upgraded to 4gb and the hdd to 300 or400.4 GB is not enough (even though you can run the application with the OS on 4 GB but it will be extremely slow); you need to allocate at least 4 GB for the application/database and more RAM for the OS (1-2 GB).
Do you forsee any issues wiith this ?
