The listener defintion does not have (or care about) any client information.

I have the database oracle 11.2.0.2 and client 11.2.0.2.

when i trying to connect getting error ora-12560 TNS protocol adapter error

I can connect my database through toad and sqldeveloper. But unable to connect using the oracle client.

    FYI:

I installed the client and did like this

Configuration and Migration Tools --> Net Manager.

From the Local tree, select Service Naming and click the plus (+) on the left hand side of the page.

    Netservicename-->selected protocal-->Hostname,portnumber,-->service name-->test (test successfull)

But when i connect through sqlplus

    sqlplus as sysdba

    passwd

error: TNS 12560 protocol adapter error

    Please assist

Is this being done on some system that is NOT the DB Server itself?

How many different systems are involved?
    What are their hostnames?
    What are their IP#s?
What are their OS name & versions?

When was last time sqlplus worked without error?
    What changed since then?

you did not specify a tns name (like this: 'sqlplus scott/tiger@mydb' -- the 'mydb' is the tns name) so sqlpus is trying to connect to a local database specified by the environment variable ORALE_SID. If such does not exist, you get the error your report.
