          This means the extract cannot find the redo logs it has set

          select * from v$log will give you the actual sequence number

          then you can do :
               -This will specify a certain redo log you want extract to start capturing transactions from
          ALTER <PROCESS_NAME> EXTSEQNO <LOG_SEQUENCE_#>
          or
               -This will make the process work from now onwards
          ALTER <PROCESS_NAME> BEGIN NOW
          Just start the process afterwards and it should be ok.

          Please remember to mark your questions as answered once you get your response in order to keep the forum clean.

            Thanks. I still not understand this alter process_name---Process_name is what?

              This you have to run it from the GGSCI prompt

              The 2 commands are I gave you are used to specify the extract process to capture from X redo log onwards, the problem comes because probably your process has been down for a while and the redo logs it was reading are not present anymore and it does not know where to begin. If this happens frequently please check ifyour DB is in ARCHIVELOG mode?

              Lets say your extract name is EXT1

              To start capturing from now onwards, your command would be : ALTER EXT1 BEGIN NOW

              Greetings,

                hi, again , ALTER <PROCESS_NAME> EXTSEQNO <LOG_SEQUENCE_#> or alter 'process_name begin now is from database level or ggsci command prompt?

                  GGSCI prompt

                  You can do either of both, its just a matter if you want to specify a redo log sequence manually or tell it to start from now (or X timestamp)

                        Extract process still stopped. The db is in archivelog mode, I was testing GG on this small testing rman database. archive log list shows last archive log sequence is 635.

                          Are you on ASM?? What is your DB version?

                          If you are on ASM try adding this to extract parameters :
                          TRANLOGOPTIONS ASMUSER {user}@{ASM_TNS_ALIAS} ASMPASSWORD {password}

                              Are you on ASM?? What is your DB version?

                              If you are on ASM try adding this to extract parameters :
                              TRANLOGOPTIONS ASMUSER {user}@{ASM_TNS_ALIAS} ASMPASSWORD {password}

                                Yes, it is on ASM and db version is 11.1.0.7.
                                I will add that on to params file and see if it will work.

                                  for asm user, we used sys all the time to log in as sysdba to do some admin stuff.

                                  What asm user I should put in here? Other than sys, I cannot think of any other users.

                                    put sys, please specify the SYSDBA privilege aswell since its required!
                                    Else you can find the required specific privileges from the online documentation

                                    you can always encrypt passwords from GoldenGate
