1. Very Simple. Oracle SOA Suite Software can be installed on top of 2 Application Servers: Oracle Weblogic Server (former BEA Weblogic Server) AND IBMs WebSphere App Server.
2. Hence you see 2 sets of EARs: One for WLS (Weblogic) and one for WAS (WebSphere).
3. As you know, first we install JDK. Then we install Weblogic or WebSphere. On top of this we install SOA. Then we create SOA/BPM Domain ofcourse after RCU db stuff etc. Thats when appropriate .EAR gets used.
4. Open these EARs in winzip file and you will see different deployment descriptors specific to that app server.
