DDL Generation not working, after Restart Open-Menue not found

    LPNO
I'm stroke again by misfortune and hope to get some help.

Using: Oracle SQL Data Modeler; Version 3.1.1.703 in 64 Bit version

First die DDL are not generated. Same situation as in Re: DDL Generation not working.

As I close SDM and reopen it, most of the menues are gone. According to some other post SQLDeveloper Data Modeler corrupted -- No option to Open a Design , it may help to delete all the files in the folder system<version-number>.

      But
      1. I don't wan't to delete all these files. Obviously SDM store there some preferences etc., It don't want to loose all this each time this bug strikes (see 2)
      2. As this seems to be a quite frequent error - it happens to me the third time, each time in a row I'm using SDM - there should be are more specific solution to this error.

So what file exactly is causing the error with the missing FILE>OPEN MENUE and all that other menu corruption?

Here I give you all the present contents in the path:

          Hi,

Are there any errors logged in your log file? (This is normally file datamodeler.log in folder datamodeler\datamodeler\log.)

          Thanks,
          David

Yes there are quite a few errors in the log.

To regain the missing menues, I started to delete subfolder by subfolder.
By deletubg the files in path
            C:\Users\thisUser\AppData\Roaming\Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler\system3.1.1.703\o.datamodeler
I regained control of the menus.

Now DLL is still not working.
            I deleted all the files
            C:\Users\thisUser\AppData\Roaming\Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler\system3.1.1.703
            reentered all the preference stuff
delete the SVN working directory content
Check out a clean working copy from SVN ( maybe I messed things up yesterday because I mixed Workingstyoe TORTOISE-SVN and SDM-SVN support. Then I checked out with SDM-SVN into a none empty working directory. I confess that this is probably not a got thing to do.
            So I guess
            * Should not use TORTOISE-SVN when working with SDM intergrated SDM-SVM tool
            * Should not checkout a TRUNK into a none empty working directory.

So I reset everything, restored the project trunc into a empty working directory.
            But:
            * DDL Generation still not works

            hmmm

              Hi,

I guess this might be related to accessing the preferences when you request a DDL generation.

Do any error messages get appended to the log when you try to do a DDL generation?

              David

there are 33 tables etc in the model..
The DDL-Generator seems to be some kind of eyeblind. The DDL i get:

Now I had the idea, that
                1. as I get the model in memory with all it's 33 tables etc. loaded and working, and
                2. DDL-Generation migth (guessing from the error log) load the model from some kind of serialized form the folderstructure listed above
DDL-Generator seems to have trouble to correctly read, what the IDE-WYSWIG-Editor was able to do...

so as I have something that is valid in memory, I saved that to another location, then restartet the DDL-Generation...
                miraculously now the DDL-Generation worked...

This gives me a glimpse of understanding of all those problems I started to get, since I tried to setup a SVN-supported workbench setup..
The software in this version seems to be very vulnerable and kind of unreliable, isn't it?
For me that function are seems badly tested and has at it's best BETA-Release quality.

Hope this is going to be improved real soon!!

I documented the events and circumstances I quite some detail here. Hope that someone at the development team can take profit of it.

This is the DDL-summary after I used the workaround I elaborated described above:

-- Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler Summary Report:
                --
                -- CREATE TABLE 33
                -- CREATE INDEX 66
                -- ALTER TABLE 66
                -- CREATE VIEW 0
                -- CREATE PACKAGE 0
                ..

                Thats how it should be..

                  Hi David

what do you think can I do to the SDM-proferences, that the DDL-generation is working correctly, with the setup described so far?

Do i guess right, that you are concerned with my default directory settings in the "data modeler"-tab PREFERENCES > DATA MODELER?

                  regards OL

                    Hi OL,

there is something wrong with following files - types.xml and defaultRDBMSSites.xml. They are located in "system data types" directory - the default location of that directory is under DM's installation directory - datamodeler\datamodeler\types.
That location can be changed at "Preferences> Data Modeler" page and Data Modeler will copy files to the new location if there are no such files there. It seems those files cannot be found in system data types directory. If you restore the files in location set in preferences then DM will start normally.
By deletubg the files in path
                    C:\Users\thisUser\AppData\Roaming\Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler\system3.1.1.703\o.datamodeler
I regained control of the menus.
You restore default location of "system data types" directory with that action.

                    Philip

                      So I guess
                      * Should not use TORTOISE-SVN when working with SDM intergrated SDM-SVM tool
No problem to use it if it's at the same SVN client version 1.6. If you want to do everything using other tool then follow Re: Cannot Use Already Versioned Directory
Otherwise we recommend Data Modeler to be used for commit, update and merge operations. Especially initial steps for getting the design into versioning repository.
                      * Should not checkout a TRUNK into a none empty working directory.
The best scenario is to have "system data types" directory and design itself in separate directories in repository and in separate directories in local file system. For local files:
                      - C:\tmp\21\system_data_types - here are types.xml, defaultRDBMSSites.xml, defaultdomains.xml, dr_custom_scripts.xml
                      - C:\tmp\21\FICO_Model - here you can save the design - FICO_Model_V20.dmd file and design's directory FICO_Model_V20
