Hi All,

I want to schedule a job which runs every monday to gather statistics for a particular tables of a schema.
Can you please suggest as which one to use for scheduling a job ..either dbms_jobs or dbms_scheduler_jobs and why?

Database version --Oracle 10.2.0.4.0.
OS version -- Linux 2.4.

Thank you

It's my opinion, it's not the truth. But i think DBMS_SCHEDULER is better to use because it gives you more options, flexibility and it's also very easy to work with. And more important, DBMS_JOB is deprecated.

    Please check:

    DBMS_JOB vs DBMS_SCHEDULER

For your Oracle version & newer Oracle RDBMS by default collects statistics once every 24 hours for all objects that would benefit from having their statistics updated.

So you don't need to do anything.

Yes i am aware of the default stats collection available in Oracle 10g. But due to performance in query we are collecting stats for some tables .

Thank you all for your inputs.
