    coherence web-application

    praveen435
      Hi,

      I am new to oracle coherence. My requirement is that put a value in coherence cache,but the condition is that i should not use default-cache server. So i created coherence servers and coherence cluster through web logic console and overrided the tangosol-coherence-override.xml.I created one jsp page and putting the value in cache.At the time of Runtime,Cacheserver which i created is get started but the values are not inserting in to the cache.
      Any suggestions would be great.

      Thanks,
      Praveen

          Hi Praveen,

          Where are you running the jsp page? Does the web application containing the jsp has the coherence.jar and override files in its classpath? You need to ensure that the container running the jsp page should join the Coherence cluser.

          Hope this helps!

          Cheers,
          NJ

            Hi NJ,

            Thanks for the reply.I am running the application in weblogic server through eclipse IDE.But the thing is that, i had attached all the jar files which are in coherence folder to the build path of the application.My requirement is to connect with the coherence server which i configured in weblogic server.Even i am not able to connect with the default cache server as well. The application which i am doing is (http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/fmw/coherence/obe34coherence_wls/coherence_wls_eclipse_setup/coherence_wls_eclipse_setup.htm).

            Regards,

              Hi Praveen,

              Can you locate the lines in your Eclipse console when you run your jsp something like below:
              Loaded operational configuration
              Loaded operational overrides
              It would be helpful to paste the console output and your cache server outputs.

              Cheers,
              NJ

                Hi NJ,

                At first i connected to the mycache through coherence.cmd and put the value greeting=hello. Now i created a webproject and added coherence jar files to the build path.I wrote one jsp page to retrieve the value hello by using the key greeting*.My jsp page is as follows*:
                <%@ page import="com.tangosol.net.CacheFactory"%>
                <%@ page import="com.tangosol.net.NamedCache"%>

                <%

                CacheFactory.ensureCluster();
                NamedCache cache=CacheFactory.getCache("mycache");
                String key="k6";
                String value="haiiiiiiiiiiiiii";
                cache.put(key,value);
                out.println(cache.get("greeting"));

                %>

                coherence-cache-config.xml:

                <?xml version="1.0"?>
                <!DOCTYPE cache-config SYSTEM "cache-config.dtd">
                <cache-config>
                     <caching-scheme-mapping>

                <cache-name>mycache</cache-name>
                <scheme-name>default-distributed</scheme-name>
                </cache-mapping>
                </caching-scheme-mapping>

                <caching-schemes>
                <distributed-scheme>
                <scheme-name>default-distributed</scheme-name>
                <service-name>DistributedCacheService</service-name>
                <backing-map-scheme>
                <local-scheme/>
                </backing-map-scheme>
                <autostart>true</autostart>
                </distributed-scheme>

                </caching-schemes>
                </cache-config>

                tangosol-coherence-override.xml

                <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

                <!DOCTYPE coherence SYSTEM "coherence-override.dtd">
                <coherence>
                <!--coherence-version:3.6-->
                </coherence>

                Then i deployed the project in weblogic10.3.4.
                My console is as follows:

                  This indicated that your weblogic coherence node was creating it's own copy of "mycache".

                  Are you pretty sure that the coherence-cache-config.xml used by coherence.cmd is exactly the same? Looks like you were using different service name between them. One is "DistributedCache" and the other is "DistributedCacheService"?

                    Hi Praveen,

                    From the logs, it is evident that the Coherence server and Weblogic Server did form a Coherence cluster which is good. But I think the cache configuration used by the Coherence Server is default and by your application it is file:/C:/Users/Praveen/workspace/SimpleCacheApp/build/classes/coherence-cache-config.xml.

                    You need to specify a startup argument for the coherence server as -Dtangosol.coherence.cacheconfig=file:/C:/Users/Praveen/workspace/SimpleCacheApp/build/classes/coherence-cache-config.xml to ensure it uses the same configuration file as the application. Also in the coherence server logs at the startup should see something similar to,
                    Loaded cache configuration from "file:/C:/Users/Praveen/workspace/SimpleCacheApp/build/classes/coherence-cache-config.xml"
                    Hope this helps!

                    Cheers,

                      Hi Nj,

                      Thanks for your reply.The mistake what i did is that i didn't added -Dtangosol.coherence.cacheconfig tag in coherence.cmd.So it is using the default one.Now after adding this tag,it is using the coherence-cache-config.xml which i overrided.Now i am able to put and get the values from the cache. How to access(use) coherence cluster and coherence server which i configured in weblogic console.

                          Hi Praveen,

                          You can either use weblogic to manage your coherence server a.k.a defaultCacheServer or you can manage them as standalone Java processes outside of weblogic. Now if you want to manage the lifecycle of coherence server (start, stop) from with Weblogic Admin Console then do the following:

                          Step1: Configure the Coherence cluster- To configure Coherence cluster navigate to the Coherence cluster definition screen via Environment > Coherence Clusters menu and enter:

                          Name: CohCluster
                          Use a Custom Cluster Configuration
                          File: tangosol-coherence-override.xml - this is the override file for the cluster

                          Step2: To configure the Coherence cluster servers navigate to the Coherence cluster definition screen via the Environment > Coherence Servers menu. Enter:

                          Name: CacheServer1
                          Machine: MyMachine
                          Cluster: CohCluster - select the name of the cluster you have just created
                          Unicast Listen Port: 9999 - the default is 8888 but its worth selecting something different and from that other clusters to prevent your servers accidentally joining another cluster

                          All other default general configuration parameters were accepted.

                          It is important to define the Server Start configuration parameters as below:

                          Java Home: the base dir of your Java installation
                          Java Vendor: Oracle
                          BEA Home: the installation dir for WLS
                          Root Directory: the domain base dir
                          Class Path: coherence/lib/coherence.jar
                          Arguments: -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -Dtangosol.coherence.cacheconfigcoherence-cache-config.xml -Dtangosol.coherence.distributed.localstorage=true -Dtangosol.coherence.role=CacheServer

                          Obviously you will need to modify these paths to reflect what is in applicable for your environment.

                          To create additional Coherence Servers you can just clone this one on the Coherence Servers admin page and change the name of the new Coherence Server. The Coherence Cluster is started from the Coherence Servers page which you can navigate to by selecting the Environment > Coherence Servers menu. On this page select the Control tab, select the Coherence Servers that you have just defined and click on the Start button (provided you have configured the nodemanager for the machine "MyMachine" defined above.

                          Hope this helps!

                          Cheers,
                          NJ

                            Hi NJ,

                            Thanks for your reply.I followed same steps what you mentioned, but didn't know how to test whether my value is going to the configured coherence server or not. I created one coherence cluster named "coherence-cluster" and i gave path of tangosol-coherence-config.xml file path in custom configuration file name.I created two coherenceservers named CoherenceServerA and CoherenceServerB.

                            The log file for coherenceServerA:

                              Hi Praveen,

                              From the logs, it is evident that your Coherence servers and cluster is properly configured. Assuming, your web application is also correctly configured with the coherence override and cache configuration, there are quite a few ways to find out if the value is going to the configured coherence server or not as below:

                              - Redeploy your jsp page with the modification and you should be able to get the value without putting the value again:

                              <%

                              CacheFactory.ensureCluster();
                              NamedCache cache=CacheFactory.getCache("mycache");
                              String key="k6";
                              String value="haiiiiiiiiiiiiii";
                              //cache.put(key,value);
                              out.println(cache.get(key));

                              %>

                              - Start coherence.cmd located in %coherence_home%/bin by adding -Dtangosol.coherence.cacheconfig and -Dtangosol.coherence.override parameters
                              Type : cache mycache
                              Type : list

                              - You can also configure JMX metrics but it will not show you (key,value) in the cache but the size of the cache. Follow the steps as mentioned here (section 2.2): http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18686_01/coh.37/e18682/jmx.htm

                              Hope this helps!

                              Cheers,
                              NJ

                                HI NJ,

                                Thanks for the reply.I overrided those two parameters(i.e..,-Dtangosol.coherence.cacheconfig,-Dtangosol.coherence.override) in coherence.cmd script.I wrote two jsp pages,first jsp page is putting the value in the cache and the second jsp page is getting the value from the cache.These two jsp pages are working fine and i am getting the value from the cache.I also run the coherence.cmd script.In the coherence.cmd,I connected to mycache and entered list commmand.The key value pairs are displaying over there.But I am curious about is there any way to see the output in weblogic console.(i.e., in coherence server log files).

                                Thank you,

                                Regards,

                                  HI NJ,

                                  one more question.when i am shutting down the coherence servers in weblogic console,the data is still appearing in the coherence.cmd when i entered list command.

                                  Regards,

                                    No I don't think this is possible with any log levels available within Coherence as this would just fill the logs instantly.

                                    Cheers,
