I am new to Solaris, and would like to go through the exercise of building the operating system from the source files.
I have not as yet installed either oracle solaris 11 binary or oracle solaris express 11 binary.
I have searched web for suitable "how to" information, but only found some guides specifically for opensolaris.
I noted on the source code download area for oracle solaris 11 and express 11 that the source code available for download is the open source portions. Am afraid that implies that since the proprietry sections are missing a build is not possible.
Any pointers or guidance or links welcome on this.
There is no source for Solaris 11 Express or Solaris 11 Release.
That stopped around build 134 from OpenSolaris. You can check the OpenSolaris.org site for source or the project was forked. Illumos.org is now the kernel stuff and projects like OpenIndiana, OmniOS or SmartOS are the derivatives.
Thanks for that Alan. I will look into those projects you listed.
I could use oracle solaris 11 or oracle solaris express 11 as host system for building the OpenSolaris derivitives I believe, with the studio tools. Is that correct ?
all the best, Seán
