I have some questions regarding transportable talespace from physical standby database。

when I do the transportable tablespace by rman: convert datafile command, do I have to bring the db tablespace in read only? It is already in mounted stage.

How do I pursue on this?

Thank you in advance.

    What is the version?
    to perform transportable tablespaces database should be in OPEN & READ-ONLY mode.
    So if you are mount datafiles will be not accessible no more, Put database open mode and then try to perform.
    But i never gone through with TTS on standby.

    Hi,

    The tablespace should be put in READ ONLY mode on the primary database. Once the tablespace is in READ ONLY mode, the datafile/tablespace can be converted on the physical standby database also. I checked for this on 11g R2 database.

    Primary Database
    ===========
    SYS @ oraprd>alter tablespace test read only;

    Tablespace altered.
    Standby Database
    ===========
    SYS @ oraphy>select name,open_mode,database_role,platform_name from v$database;

    NAME      OPEN_MODE            DATABASE_ROLE                   PLATFORM_NAME
    --------- -------------------- ---------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ORAPRD    MOUNTED              PHYSICAL STANDBY          Microsoft Windows IA (32-bit)

    C:\>rman target sys/abc123@oraphy

    RMAN> convert tablespace 'TEST' to platform="Solaris[tm] OE (32-bit)" FORMAT 'c:\temp\%U';

    Starting conversion at source at 19-JUN-12
    using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
    allocated channel: ORA_DISK_1
    channel ORA_DISK_1: SID=125 device type=DISK
    channel ORA_DISK_1: starting datafile conversion
    input datafile file number=00005 name=C:\APP\XYZ\ORADATA\ORAPHY\ORAPHY\DATAFILE\O1_MF_TEST_7Y164YMB_.DBF
    converted datafile=C:\TEMP\DATA_D-ORAPRD_I-2633932676_TS-TEST_FNO-5_12NDU0JK
    channel ORA_DISK_1: datafile conversion complete, elapsed time: 00:00:25
    Finished conversion at source at 19-JUN-12

    RMAN> exit

    So is that mean on standby db, I don't have to put tablespace in read only mode, it is already.

    so I can directly do rman convert command?

    Hi,

    As demonstrated, if the tablespace is in READ ONLY mode then you can use the RMAN CONVERT command on a physical standby database also.
