RAM issued  T5240 only detect 48 GB RAM, cannot detect full RAM expected

Dear guys,

We has some issues and need your suggestion, thank you so much for supporting.


We has a SPARC T5240 Server with a 32GB RAM with 2GB FB-DIMM size. Now, we have to upgrade memory for this server to 64GB RAM Size by adding a new memory board
- All new RAM DIMM is the same type, size and information with the current RAM (16 DIMM 2GB)
- We have check this new RAM by installing into the old memory board and all fine.

But when we install new memory board into the server, our server cannot detect full RAM size, instead, it only detect 48GB RAM.
As my part, the issues is our new memory board, but we must upgrade two T5240 server, both server just detect 48GB RAM.

Now we so confused with this case and need your help.

    You need read or provide POST output for understanding what reason disabling some DIMMS.

    Did you purchase the new RAM directly from Oracle (or an officially authorized reseller), or did you purchase the new parts from someone that claimed them to merely be "compatible" ?

    Do you get the same failure if you combine all the original memory from your two systems into one box (without using any of the newly purchased parts)?

    You do indeed need to copy and paste the relevant error messages, exactly as Nik has requested. He will then be able to make a guess on the root cause.

    Thx for your reminds, some infor detail for you:

    We have read the POST output but there's not have any infor that involve to the disable DIMMS, the system note that they detect 48GB RAM

    I don't know about these RAM from, but these RAM can work fine and have the same with the current RAM. We have test the case as you mentioned with combine all the original memory from my two system into one box but the result still was the same.
    Now I think the reason is issues with the memory board additionally or the server need upgrade fw or do sth similar for solving? This action can be the good ideal?

    Srr for my output paste, but I don't see any attach button.
    As my provided infor,maybe a DIMM in the channel 1 cannot be detect and displaying maybe not correct

    I want others to glance at what you pasted, but my first glance seems to see...
    You are mixing different sized DIMMs and very few are 2GB in size.
    If they were all the correct pieces, then every line of your output would be the same.
    4 GB MB/CMP1/BR1/CH0/D0 MB/CMP1/BR1/CH1/D0
    is not the same as:
    2 GB MB/CMP0/BR0/CH0/D1 MB/CMP0/BR0/CH1/D1
    is not the same as ...
    128 MB MB/CMP0/BR1/CH0/D0 MB/CMP0/BR1/CH1/D0
    I am beginning to think you are confused on what you own.
    I am beginning to think you are seeing exactly what you are supposed to see when you mix DIMM sizes as you seem to be doing.

    Get and read the Administration Guide and then the Service Manual. Both are available as downloadable PDFs.
