Installer hanging on selecting Desktop Class

    TeeChelt
      Morning,

I downloaded the 32 bit Windows 11.2.0.3 patchset from My Oracle Support early on in the week. When I try to install it on a Windows 7 machine, the installer hangs on the 'Installing Database' page after I select 'Desktop Class' and press the Next button.

I had earlier chosen to skip software updates and the create and install a starter database option.

Has anyone else experienced this, are there any log files created by the installer at this point that I can look at or can anyone help with a solution?

Pl identify exact version of "Win 7". Please confirm you meet all of the pre-reqs in Section 2 of the install doc

          http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24186/toc.htm

Ensure that you do not use any directories with spaces (eg "Program Files") in the install process.

Section F in the above link shows you the location of the install log file. Pl post the last 100 lines here

            Thanks Srini,

I can confirm I have met all the pre-requirements and don't have spaces in the folders.

The machine being installed on is Windows 7 SP1

Here are the lines from the log file:

Thanks agin for your time Srini,

How do I configure the location of the inventory as none of the screens I come across allow me to do so?

With the 11g Release 1 OUI, you had a dialog prompting you but I don't seem to get that with the 11g Release 2 one.

Wlll it be enough to simply set the ORACLE_BASE environment variable.

Pl edit the location pointed to by the registry key "\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oracle\inst_loc" and try again

                    Morning all,

Srini, the registry key is not on the machine so I can't edit it. I don't think the installation went as far enough to put that registry key in.

It appears a few people are having similar problems with 11g release 2 OUI and trrying to proceed after selecting desktop class and pressing Next. I have tried the '-jreloc' suggestion from a different thread and that is making no difference.

Hmm weird - pl confirm you are running setup.exe by right-clicking and selecting "Run As Administrator". Are you using Win 7 Professional (or higher) ?

                        Srini,

It appears to be working now (at least I have gone past the hanging stage to the installiation in progress one). I was tryng to install it on another users machine and was using his login. Even though he was logged in as a local adminstrartor, OUI was hanging.

I asked our Systems Admin person to grant me a local administartor account on the machine and logged in as myself to do the install and it now works (or appears to be).

So I have stumbled on a solution but can't explain why because I have exactly the same admin rights as the original machine user.

Funny thing though, when I logged in and ran the exe as an administrator as you suggested, OUI crashed at exactly the same point as before instead of hanging.

                        Thanks for your help.

Apears to be some kind of problem with the administrator rights of the person that is logged in to run OUI.
