    DISPLAY:0.0

    redologger
      hi,

i am trying to install oracle database on my oracle vm on oracle linux 6

i am able to DISPLAY:0.0 export DISPLAY and xclock as root.

but when i su - oracle

and try the above command again, i was not able to do so.

I am doing it locally, not trying to access from a client to the remote server that kind.

          As root execute
          # xhost +
          before "su - oracle".

I suggest to use ssh -X and forget about setting a DISPLAY variable or worry about xhost authentication methods.

You can use ssh also on a local machine instead of using the su command, for instance:

            ssh -X oracle@localhost

If it does not work, make sure you do NOT have any DISPLAY variable set and have the xauth package installed, which is normally default. Why the Oracle database installation still points out an obsolete and insecure method to use X Windows for the purpose of running runInstaller under Linux, I don't know, since it wasn't really written more than 10 years ago, I guess.
