    Access to SYSDBA

    909598
      Hi,

      Please need some help with sysdba access.
      I can't connect to oracle apps R12 database prod(fresh) installation on windows xp with sys/default pwd: change_on_install.)
      I have tried from cmd prompt but still to no avail:
      sqlplus /nolog
      sql> conn / as sysdba(even with quotes)
      enter user name= system
      enter pwd= default pwd

      I can easily connect as system/default pwd from sqlplus.
      But using Alter cmd in sqlplus gives error:
      Password change for SYS is disallowed
      Even though I was able to grant DBA role to system but still cannot connect as SYSDBA

      My O/S account is part of the ORA_DBA group.

      Any idea will help?

          Not sure if this belongs in Database Security forum.

          Anyway, please try following command and post back copy-paste of entire command session:
          sqlplus / as sysdba
          What's the full Database server version?

          How are you logged in to Windows, local machine or domain account?

            Hi
            Thanks for the quick response.
            But I have eventually been able to connect as SYS but still cannot grant sysdba to any user:
            SQL> conn system/manager@prod as sysdba;
            Connected.
            SQL> grant sysdba to system;
            grant sysdba to system
            *
            ERROR at line 1:
            ORA-01999: password file cannot be updated in SHARED mode

            I changed init.ora file paremeter remote_login_passwordfile to exclusive mode

            remote_login_passwordfile=EXCLUSIVE

            O7_DICTIONARY_ACCESSIBILITY = TRUE

            SQL> alter user sys identified by jonny;
            alter user sys identified by jonny
            *
            ERROR at line 1:
            ORA-28046: Password change for SYS disallowed

            Any further idea will be helpful.
            Thanks

                Hi,

                I have managed to resolved the issue and thanks for looking into it.
                I was supposed to have shutdown and started the Database with SPfile.
                I am now able to to change SYS pwd and grant any user sysdba.
                Regards
