I am trying to install this rpm, but got the following error, it needs dependency of itselfThis means you must install this RPM, and its prerequisites in a single rpm(8) or yum(8) command. Connect this server with http://public-yum.oracle.com and then do:
# yum install glibc-devel.i686
I was confused earlier. But why yum install could install the rpm, but when I do "yum search all" , it could not find this particular rpm?
The following should work:
yum search glibc-devel
yum list glibc-devel
got it. thanks.
How come when I use "yum search all | grep glibc-devel", it won't find the rpm, but "yum search glibc-devel" can? what diffrences are between these 2 commands?

According to the yum man page, search, by default will try searching just package names and summaries, but if that "fails" it will then try descriptions and url. You can force searching everything by specifying "all" as the first argument.
Obviously yum serach all does not work. You can see that when typing "yum search all" as it obviously searches for the word "all".
Try "yum list all | grep glibc-devel"
