    Whether it is recommended is a question I cannot answer, but you can install an additional version of java and set it as default:

    You can download Oracle jrockit from:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/jrockit/downloads/index.html

    According to the documentation Fusion Middleware products are certified with Oracle UEK kernel:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/downloads/fusion-certification-100350.html
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13150_01/jrockit_jvm/jrockit/webdocs/index.html

    For instance:

    <pre>
    chmod u+x jrockit-jdk1.6.0_33-R28.2.4-4.1.0-linux-x64.bin
    mkdir -p /usr/local/lib/jvm
    ./jrockit-jdk1.6.0_33-R28.2.4-4.1.0-linux-x64.bin
    </pre>

    Specify /usr/local/lib/jvm/jrockit-jdk1.6.0_33-R28.2.4-4.1.0 as installation directory

    To use jrockit as your your default java:

    <pre>
    ln -s /usr/local/lib/jvm/jrockit-jdk1.6.0_33-R28.2.4-4.1.0 \
    /usr/local/lib/jvm/jrockit-jdk1.6.0_33
    alternatives --install /usr/bin/java java \
    /usr/local/lib/jvm/jrockit-jdk1.6.0_33/bin/java 2
    alternatives --config java
    </pre>

    Select 2 when prompted.

    <pre>
    java -version
    java version "1.6.0_33"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_33-b03)
    Oracle JRockit(R) (build R28.2.4-14-151097-1.6.0_33-20120618-1634-linux-x86_64, compiled mode)
    </pre>

    To be able to test applets.html in the jrockit demo directory you will need to install the java plugin for Firefox:

    <pre>
    yum install firefox
    mkdir -p ~/.mozilla/plugins
    cd ~/.mozilla/plugins
    ln -sf /usr/local/lib/jvm/jrockit-jdk1.6.0_33/jre/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so .
    </pre>

    But according to my experience Firefox will crash.
