There's a small amount of information in the tape library documentation:
Considering there are a number of different possible drive technologies possible in that library chassis (e.g. SCSI versus SAS) you might consider logging a SR just to get a definitive answer. TechSupport can look up your box by serial number and discuss all you might ever ask about it.
Apologies....I am not trying to contact Oracle Tech Support. Simply asking if anyone who has an sl24 knows whether or not they support hardware compression. I have been unable to answer this on my own.
Thank you for your reply. I was trying to avoid the My Oracle Support because they have been very unhelpful. Half the time I have to wait a week and escelate to get anything from my open SRs.
The LTO drives in SL24 and SL48 support compression. You can also check it through the library GUI. But I have to admit I would not know where to disable it. I know it is working because we tend to write between 1200 and 1600GB on LTO4 tapes (800GB uncompressed) without doing any compression in the backup software.
