not able to create san repository

Hello All,

I am not able to create a san repository in oracle VM 3.0.3

I have registered the iSCSI array and I am able to see the luns from my storage server in the Web-UI but when I am trying to create the repository its getting failed saying that there is already an OCFS2 filesystem present in that lun

this is the line from the ovs-agent.log file : Fault: <Fault 1: "OSCPlugin.FileSystemBusyEx:'An ocfs2 filesystem already exists on /dev/mapper/2000b080007001301'">

and in the Web-UI the error is :

(05/28/2012 08:36:23:081 PM) OVMAPI_B000E Storage plugin command [storage_plugin_createFileSystem] failed for storage server [0004fb0000090000f970595dd650ed66] failed with [com.oracle.ovm.mgr.api.exception.FailedOperationException: OVMAPI_4010E Attempt to send command: dispatch to server: ovmserver failed. I am stuck in this and not able to proceed further, any help would be great.

Thanks,

    Hi,
Just to share with you, dealing with the same issue in VM 3.1.3.

    What I have done is:

Created 2 SAN lun, presented them by two targets.
    Created a server cluster pool
Assigned 1 lun to the cluster pool
Started the Create repository wizzard, selected the second lun.

My Agent logs looks like (Grep on ERROR):

Would be great if we could solve this...

    Hi,

Please delete file system on disks where you want to create repository!

Thank you for your response, could you maybe more specific?
The filesystem (OC2F) has been created by OVm, isnt it?

In what way would you remove the FS?

    +1

What is the correct procedure please ? Simply moving the file brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252, 0 Jun 11 14:42 3600144f008002734a7034faa8a600001

is not good enough as the next error is that it does not exist .....

This will happen, if you try to create a new repository (or OCFS2 fs in this case) on a drive/LUN where is already an OCFS2 fs on the drive/LUN. This either has been left over from a previous attempt to create a storage repository which failed or this is a LUN that does not belong to this OVM(!)

Make sure that the latter is not the case, since destroying the OCFS2 fs on that LUN might destroy an existing storage repository!

Otherwise, I have successfully wiped such a LUN by overwriting the first 100MB on the drive using dd. Again - make sure that you are not accidentially dealing with an existing OCFS2 fs, which carries an active repository.

You need the latest patch on OVMM 3.1.1 (365 I believe) which you can only get from the support channel.
If you have that, and you are still getting the error, the physical disk you are presenting for the repo has old metadata. You have to delete it and create a new one, or use a different one.

doing the dd command worked for me!

a dd command over the /dev/mapper/DEVICE or over the /dev/sdX device? just asking?

I have the same problem. See OVM will not attach to iSCSI disk now

I do not know about the dd command. I would imagine I run this on one of the OVM servers? Could you give an example
on how to use this command?

    Thanks

I went through this same path this week, I couldn't remove the Storage, the only way i could finally delete the storage was Reinstalling the whole server, even after reinstalling, I was being unable to create a Repository on my SATA disk.

The last time I reinstalled the server I did this:

    - Forced the initialization of the sdb (SATA) disk by creating an ext3 partition an mounting it in /mnt/sdb1
    - Install VM Manager since it's the only server/manager I have.
    - Remove the ext3 partition using GParted. be careful with this since you need to remove the partition from the /etc/fstab file created during installation
    - The SATA disk was shown by the command mounted.ocfs2 -d (It seems to be initialized automatically with a ocfs2 partition after I deleted the ext3 partition
    - On the VM Manager, the SATA disk was not present in the Storage Tab
    - Tried ti create a Repository over the SATA disk show in the Physical disks browse window... The SATA disk was show here (INCREDIBLE).
---- ERROR, the disk has already an ocfs2 partition in it.
    - Wipe the disk out using the command
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mapper/SATA_ST31000528AS_9VP26K90 bs=1M count=100
    - Rebooted
    - Back in the Manager, the the SATA disk was still not shown in the Storage Tab
    - In the Repositories Tab, create a Physical Repository
    - The repository got created and finally show in Storage Tab

I am really starting to wonder if OVM 3 is really ready for prime time......the whole system seems overly complex....and is a bit flakey.

Is this system to be used in production environments?

It will working fine when you just type the command below on your VM Server:

    # dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mapper/2000b080007001301 bs=4K count=4

    Thanks and regards,
    Vandy
