Is ACFS supported for RMAN backups?

    GrumpyDBA
I understand from the Admin guide that "Oracle ACFS does not support any file that can be directly stored
in Oracle ASM" but does this include RMAN backups? I would assume that any other type of backup would be supported since these are standard cooked files.

I would have thought that it would.

However, if we read the Storage Administrator's Guide (Chapter 5) "Overview of ACFS"
          http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e16102/asmfilesystem.htm#CACJFGCD
"+Oracle ACFS does not support any file that can be directly stored in Oracle ASM+."
and then read Table 7-1 http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e16102/asmfiles.htm#g1030822
it is apparent that Data file backup pieces in backupsets, being supported by ASM are not supported in ACFS.

As of 11.2.0.3.0 ASM, yes for RMAN backupsets.

              Yes it supported RMAN backup.

Starting with Oracle Automatic Storage Management 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.3), Oracle ACFS supports RMAN backups (BACKUPSET file type), archive logs (ARCHIVELOG file type), and Data Pump dumpsets (DUMPSET file type)
