How to know if Grid Control is installed ?

    BSalesRashid
      Hi fellows,

The other DBA installed Oracle 11g in one machine here, i don't know what steps he proceeded in installation, he only told me that Enterprise manager works for this environment.

He told me that, to make enterprise manager work he had to install Grid Control, that was a requisite.

Since i never worked with grid, i don't know if the Grid is installed, how can i know if it is installed and working?

      Thanks in advance.

What you have installed is "DB Control" - not "Grid Control". It is a sub-product of the EM family that can only manage a single database. Grid/Cloud Control can manage multiple DBs from a single console and has lots of other features.

Check the disk(s) to find the file inventory.xml. If you post the HOME NAME entries from this file we can see if GC is installed.

                  Hi,
                  thanks for replying.

I tryed to find it inside ORACLE_BASE directories and found:
                  ./product/11.2.0/grid/oc4j/.patch_storage/9452259_Mar_18_2010_23_37_55/original_patch/etc/config/inventory.xml

                  ./product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/oc4j/sainventory/oneoffs/8513914/etc/config/inventory.xml

I searched by 'HOME NAME' inside some inventory.xml and don't found nothing interesting.

inventory.xml could be in an other directory different from ORACLE_BASE's directories ?

                  Thanks!

Do a cat /etc/oraInst.loc (if you use Linux or /var/opt/oracle for Solaris) this should point you to one or more directories where you will find under the directory ContentsXM the file inventory.xml
