    Pro*C: NLS_CHAR=var1 makes no difference

      list of the names of one or more host variables that the precompiler must treat as multibyte character variables.
      Please explain what it means.

      The env var NLS_LANG does make difference when I select national chars into host variables: when it's XXX.AL32UTF8, the character '®' is retrieved as two bytes.

      But what about the NLS_CHAR option?
