Is it possible to take an appliance that is written to connect to MySQL via JDBC (configurable settings are host/port/instance/username/pwd) and have it connect to an Oracle database instead without changing the appliance, (i.e. use the MySQL JDBC driver)?
If so, what are the schema ramifications on the Oracle DB side? Would a standard MySQL script for creating tables work in this scenario?
Would this work the same with Oracle on Amazon RDS?
It would be better to ask this question in the JDBC forum -
Forum: Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) Java Database Connectivity (JDBC)
They have more experience with the JDBC drivers and better able to answer your question.
