You could mine the alert log on the standby. You would have to change it to meet your exact needs, but there's an excellent example here :
if you are using a dataguard configuration you can use something like "dgmgrl" and show configuration to get the status of you Standby configuration.
for example if on server which host standby server goes reboot or standby got crashed then what how will we track will it write it in standby alert log file ...........
you can use EM monitoring if you have grid, or else write a script to check that checks connectivity to the DB. Again you may want to know whether apply is running, how much te standby is lagging etc, you can use dgmgrl and the views like V$archived_log, v$managed_standby to check that.
