If the source is OPEN why does it require instance recovery ?

Ok, thank you. Then it is the duplicated database (the new one) that would be recovered ?Yes
And source databse would not be impacted ?Yes
But it did not work. Because of :
DUPLICATE DATABASE TO NEWDB FROM ACTIVE DATABASE NOFILENAMECHECK;
Of course , source database is open and in use.
ORA-19505: failed to identify file "M:\BASES\OLDDB\DATA\PREE.DBF"; ORA-27086: unable to lock file - already in use
