Hm, alright, so if it's not specified on the upgrade homepage as a prerequisite (or somewhere in a required resolution) then I shouldn't need to install additional current release updates.
The upgrade homepage I'm looking at is metalink id. 1299820.1, but I don't want to violate any policy by posting the certification content.
The only release mentioned there is FSCM8.9 and a tools requirement, I guess I can dive straight to required for upgrade resolutions then, not that it's light reading :-)
As long as you match the certified configurations on your source as well as on your target system, pay attention on the chapter "Updates and Fixes Required at Upgrade" in the note you mentioned. The pdf explain what you need and what you don't need.
As for the Peopletools patch level required, if nothing is there, then your certified source system should be ok. Read also "Certified Upgrade Path" where you can find source and target application/peopletools path upgrade.
