Applet: can not launch, need explainations concerning the error message

I got this message on a computer that tried to launch an Applet I'm working on:
          at sun.plugin2.applet.JNLP2Manager.initialize(Unknown Source)
          at sun.plugin2.main.client.PluginMain.initManager(Unknown Source)
          at sun.plugin2.main.client.PluginMain.access$200(Unknown Source)
          at sun.plugin2.main.client.PluginMain$2.run(Unknown Source)
          at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
Error while initializing manager: java.lang.NullPointerException, bail out
I think it is because the java vm is not ready but I want to be sure this exception is related to the jvm.
Otherwise I would have exceptions related to my Applet instead of Unknown Source.

      Any idea ?

To be precise: there is only two computers on six that have this issue (one under Seven and one under XP SP2)
I'm not admin on these computers so I have no access to the Configuration Panel to check if the jvm is installed.
