Data Guard Backup question

Hello,

We are building a physical Oracle Data Guard 11.2.0.3 on Linux Redhat 6.3. As per requirement, it is an OLTP with very high rate of transcations. This will be a production envirnment and the estimated database size between 2 or 3 TB of data in one year.

As per requirement, the database must be cycled backed up in real time on Tape; this is to ensure that archivelogs will nto fill up the disk space.
I have a good understanding of Oracle Data Guard 11gR2, I wonder what are the best practices in such high OLTP envirnment to backup the archivelogs, remove them from primary database server and to ensure at the same that the standby is in Sync.
Probably we will use maximum performance mode.

Thank you,
S

    Well the best solution is adding the following line to ensure deletion and that oracle database will not need archivelog any more
    crosscheck archivelog all;
    backup archivelog all delete input;

    You might want to
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO shipped to all standby;
    first.

    Thank you, What is the best in term of performance and recovery?
    'CONFIGURE CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY'
    OR
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO shipped to all standby;
    Also, these commands must be configured on both RMAN catalogues; I mean RMAN primary catalogue and RMAN Standby catalogue, right?

    Could you share please your RMAN configuration in production (after removing sensible data) so I can have an idea?

    Cheers

    When you are backing up the archives on primary database, then you need to set "CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY" and on primary set as "CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE".

    Refer this http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B13789_01/server.101/b10823/manage_ps.htm

    If you want to delete logs after ensuring that they are shipped to all destinations, then use:
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO SHIPPED TO ALL STANDBY;
    If you want to delete logs after ensuring that they were applied on all standby destinations, then use:
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON ALL STANDBY;
    Refer this http://oracle.su/docs/11g/server.112/e10700/rman.htm

    I would prefer setting it to "applied on all standby" rather than just "shipped to all standby".
