There are no ASMLib kernel drivers for RHEL 6 kernels. However, the Oracle UEK kernel has drivers for ASMLib, OCFS2, etc. built-in. You can download and switch to Oracle Linux for free, including the latest patches from Oracle Public Yum support.1 person found this helpful
Whether there will be ASMLib for RHEL in the future is probably up to RHEL. According to http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2011/03/04/red_hat_twarts_oracle_and_novell_with_change_to_source_code_packaging RHEL undercuts Oracle and Novell with hidden patches trying to hide information from these competitors that is essential to providing support for RHEL specifically. If you are a Oracle database customer, Oracle Linux is probably a much better deal anyway.
Thank you Dude.
I have downloaded the rpm packages needed for prereq installation from;
Do you know if those rpm packages for Oracle Linux 6 work also for Redhat Linux 6?
http://public-yum.oracle.com/ Oracle Linux 6 # cd /etc/yum.repos.d # wget http://public-yum.oracle.com/public-yum-ol6.repo
The following will automatically install the Oracle UEK2 kernel on your RHEL 6 installation, download required softare and prepare the system for the Oracle 11gR2 database installation. And finally install the latest software patches.
su - root
mv rhel-source.repo rhel-source.repo.disabled
sed -i "s/DEFAULTKERNEL=kernel/DEFAULTKERNEL=kernel-uek/g" /etc/sysconfig/kernel
yum -y install oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall.x86_64
sed -i "s/Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server/Oracle Linux Server/g" /boot/grub/grub.conf
yum -y update oracle-logos oraclelinux-release-6Server
shutdown -r now
The procedure will most likely void your Red Hat support.
@ user DBA,
Did you ever read the replies in the first post you made of this question?
Please help Orache 11gR2 install on RHEL 6.2
It's a "how do I install an application" question, so the post was moved to a forum for that application.
