Applications on Oracle RAC

Hi would appreciate if some one could guide me or point me to some URL, to how to handle nod fail-over.

I have custom application done in Java, and this is connected to 2 nod Oracle RAC. recently we found when ever the node which was catering reboots or fails the application gets stuck and we have to restart the application as well.

1. Do-sent this fail over should be seamless!
2. Do we need to do any modifications to the application to handle these kinds scenarios
3. Is there aditional configuration for the RAC side?

My environment is

HP DL 380 G8
Oracle linux 5.6 (64)
Oracle 11g2

Thanks and Regards

    High level documentation can be found in white paper "Application Failover with Oracle Database 11g": http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/app-failover-oracle-database-11g-173323.pdf.

    Detailed documentation can be found in RAC documentation "Introduction to Workload Management": http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/rac.112/e16795/hafeats.htm#BABIAICG .

    If you want to use Transparent Application Failover see http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/rac.112/e16795/hafeats.htm#BABDCBHH from same document and "Configuring Transparent Application Failover" in http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/network.112/e10836/advcfg.htm#i473297 from Net Services Administrator's Guide.

    ask application team to subscribe to oracle notifications(ONF). This can be done by modifying setting in JDBC drivers.

    localport= <number>
    remoteport= <number>
    nodes= <nodename>

    you can provide them above information, so that they can handle errors internally and reconnect the session after failure notification.

    you can find that infomation on following file:

    $GRID_HOME/opmn/conf/ons.config

    -Thanks
