It wouldn't matter if the tape drive is attached to the NAS or another client in this scenario. At first blush, it appears as though encryption is configured within OSB. As the error message indicates, encrypting NDMP data requires the tape drive to perform the encryption. Another words, OSB cannot use software encryption as OSB isn't installed on the NAS. Are you sure that the backup schedule or default/policy doesn't have encryption on?
Verified that the Backup policy and schedule have encryption set to No. Also disabled the HW encryption setting under Config->Defaults and Policies->BackupEncryption
The other thing is that the tape drive this is using is an encryption enabled LTO5 tape drive
Further testing has shown these messages are only seen when the tape drive is an IBM LTO5 encrypting drive. We tested with a HP LTO5 drive and we did not see the warning messages on any backup.
