This is not the greatest amount of synergy there is

Is there any relationship between an elephant and a dolphin?

    ................

The ipad developer typically I would assume is great at doing use interface skills.

The oracle DBA, and there are many definitions of such an animal, typically specialises in being able to maintain and manage Oracle Databases well so they run efficiently. (Many other users of this program will give a better definition). Some oracle DBAs may get into database design, (or come from a database desing / developer background.

    ....

What I think you may looking for, and for which you may be able to relate to more closely, is the knowledge to of what a database is and how you can use is to store information effectively and how to design some tables to store that effectively.

An Oracle (Classic enterprise) Database is one option here, but it may be be over the top and too heavyweight. Other options from Oracle would be MySQL, nosql and berkley DB.

    .....

So I'd really suggest learning a little mor background first.

And dont go for a certification study until you have a little study first and its the right thing to do:

Sadly, yes. It's a long-distance relationship, of course. Everyone knows that it will never work out, but neither one of them will listen. Love is blind.

as a iOS developer you have a strong fundament for Oracle DBA.

    I recommend you those exams:

    - 1Z0-047 Oracle Database SQL Expert
    - 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 OCA Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate

for those 3 exams quite a lot study guides available (see Amazon.com). No official course required.

be warned: even exams called "Associate" are difficicult in Oracle DB world. IMHO Oracle DB exams are not possible to pass without real world experience. Only lab experience won't give you OCA title.

    good luck

An Oracle DBA's job is to make sure a co-mpany's Oracle Database(s) operate efficiently with minimum T-C-O and to protect the underlying data so it does not corrupt, get l-ost, or walk off to some person who should not rightfully have it. He should seek to server the users of the database, and ensure they do not harm the database or its Function.

They must protect the Oracle Database from Oracle and their upgrades and patches, especially any with a zero in the version number. He must endure ITIL in all its many form-s. He must endure the man-agement and pro-tect the database from them. She must endure the users, especially the powerusers, and may need to help them change car-eer. She must endure the system administrators, the stor-age team, the back-up team, the fire-wall team, Jane the cable rip-per of SQF, the project manager. He must know what to do when the toi-lets over-flow into the server room underneath, when every-thing goes badly wrong, and to cope with the time it takes to sho-vel terabytes around. She must now get her head st-uck in the cloud, because that is where the action is. And be prepared to be rung and awoken and have to perform 24x7.

Others simply view an Oracle DBA OCP certificate as a bbadge of hon-our. I personally, and i am an extreme cynic, would not expect to let more the have the "Oracle DBA's" with an Oracle DBA OCP Certification anywhere near an Oracle Database following an inter-view.

Anyway thats my view of an Oracle DBA's job at this instant in time.

    I however digress.

I also would not give the following advice as per the post above ... it has some points.

You information with regard to the SQL Lite is useful, it shows you have some concept of what a database is and how to connect to it.

If my understanding of where you are at is correct I personally consider suggest the following approach:

    A) Down-load Oracle Express edition (link above) and install it and become a little familiar with it. ( Possilby SQL Developer also). Be aware it can dom-inate a windows machine, so i'd personally prefer to install on an old destop running oracle enterprise linux or onto a VM rather than direct to your day to day laptop. Be aware even that Oracle requires lots of ram. And then some more. Try to practice, and perhaps try to put you sqllite database on it. Oracle Express edition isn't really particualrly useful for learning Oracle Database administration skills, for 1z0-052 say; but ti is really useful in studying for 1z0-051 and developing applications against without worrying about database administration.

    B) As above but use MySQL. The SQL dialect is a little different ... but you may find it suits yoursef better and has better synergy from where you are at.

    C) I've not looked at nosql ... (see above) ... but its the new thing on the block and might suit (or it might disappear like oraclepowerobjects).

This is a certification forum, but some will comment that your certification journey is important rather than single focus on the certificate. The 'Oracle DBA OCP' (which also requires an ex-pensive training course) is seen as an extremely high value certificate; and many I feel go for it because it is seen as the top certifcate and it will give prest-ige and power by owning it.

For a different viewpoint in this post vists say Joel Goodman's Blog ... http://dbatrain.wordpress.com/articles-papers-and-presentations/

    https://blogs.oracle.com/certification/
https://blogs.oracle.com/certification/entry/a_good_time_to_be_an_oracle_db Dont tink i agreed with this from memory).

    https://blogs.oracle.com/certification/entry/new_booklet_installing_oracle

.... in general consider this post a few scrambled jottings .... it will probably confuse you more than help.
