RMI Server JVM fatal error SIGSEGV

I have a simple RMI server. What it does is to launch a single shell script by calling Runtime.getruntime().exec(). It has been running for over a year without issues. Due the higher volume in recent days, the RMI server crashes almost once a day with:

      # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
      # SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0xff25710c, pid=2048, tid=145691
      # JRE version: 6.0_31-b04
      # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (20.6-b01 mixed mode solaris-sparc )
      # Problematic frame:
      # C [libc.so.1+0x5710c]# [ timer expired, abort... ]

There is no other information available. Any pointer is appreciated.
