I would like to install Oracle XE as a learning tool but have Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit which I see in the installation guide is not supported. I guess the answer therefore is to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional which the XE Installation Guide says is supported.
I have checked various forums and there seems to be some varying opinions on this. Before I go ahead and upgrade to Windows 7 Professional, can someone advise the best course of action please?
"Not Supported" doesn't mean it won't work, trying the installer with the current OS is much less work than upgrading.
But this is the only support channel for XE, so it's not like you're outside of an oracle supported system because there is no oracle support for XE.
Good luck, managing the rdbms has many challenges.
The full 11g documentation can be quite helpful, even though XE has a subset of the SE or EE options, and going through the XE 2-Day DBA pages is good reading as well.
