downloaded the iso again, recorded in another blank cd, tried again and got exactly the same error (with a '\' in the last line). i could install perfectly debian last week using a cd, so i think it might not be a cd-reader problem...
Is your T5120 firmware downrev?
Older firmware may not work with Solaris 11
yes, outdated firmware may be the cause. i have Sun System Firmware 7.1.6.d 2008/09/15 17:11 and the release notes say http://docs.iws.cs.uni-magdeburg.de/admin/solaris11/html/E23811/hardw.html#glnnh say i need 7.4.0b.
but i cannot verify it: i've been just told that the machine must enter "production mode" just now. so i'll have to be with solaris 10 for some more time.
