    Oracle 11GR2 DB Console

    763938
      Hi

I have installed Oracle 11GR2 in RHEL 6 ( using VM). I started the dbconsole ( emctl start dbconsole ) and able to view the dbconsole using RHEL firefox. Link is "https://localhost:1158/em/console/aboutApplication". How can make the link work in my windows browser. Is there a way to run the dbconsole in Windows. Instead of "https://localhost:1158/em/console/aboutApplication" should I replace the localhost with Linux RHEL IP address.

      Please advise.

I am very new to Oracle world.

when hostname is localhost, this precludes access by any remote system.
this OS/Networking basics issue & has nothing to do with Oracle.

If you are seeing any error, let us know what the error is.

As SB said, 'localhost' is non-routable. No request for localhost (or it's IP address 127.0.0.1) ever leaves the machine making the request. This is networking 101, and again, as SB said, has nothing to do with oracle.

But as you fix it, you need to be aware that when you configured your dbconsole with 'localhost', that name was baked into it's configuration files. You'll need to assign your vm a fixed IP address and name, put the appropriate entry into /etc/hosts, then use dbca (gui) or emca (command line) to reconfigure your dbcontrol.

you need to add you vmware ip on your hosts in windows

                -hosts path :
                C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
                # Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
                #
                # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
                #
                # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
                # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
                # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
                # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
                # space.
                #
                # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
                # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
                #
                # For example:
                #
                #      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
                #       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

                # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
                #     127.0.0.1       localhost
                #     ::1             localhost
                IP      Hostname

I have added as mentioned. ( See below ). In the VM Linux Firebox browser, if I enter http://localhost/ , i can see the Redhat Enterprise Test Page screen.

From Windows, I can ping the linux IP from my laptop. When i enter http://192.168.239.135/, I do not get the Redhat Test Page. The browser say ' IE cannot display page".

Not sure what configuration i am missing.
