The af:poll components uses the timeout parameter to determine the timeout. The default value is 600000 which is 10 minutes. See - http://jdevadf.oracle.com/adf-richclient-demo/docs/tagdoc/af_poll.html
When a poll is active, the session inactivity timeout may never get triggered. This is because, a new request hits the server on the poll event. af:poll cuts off the polling on reaching the timeout so the session may timeout.
Great, thank you very much, I was searching some hours for this before getting an idea why this happens. I was so blind to the obvious!!!
After some specific search on this timeout, I now understand why our portlet worked earlier as expected. This timeout attribute was introduced in 220.127.116.11 (JDev 11g PS3). Nice API change :(
