Dataguard 11g setup between AIX and Linux

Hi,

We are planning to move our Oracle databases from AIX 6.1 to Oracle Linux 6.2

To reduce the downtime, we are thinking of setting up a dataguard (physical or logical) and do the switchover.

Have you performed this before?

Will you pls send me the steps?

Thanks,
DR

    Hello;

    If I understand the question correctly you should refer to this note :

    Data Guard Support for Heterogeneous Primary and Physical Standbys in Same Data Guard Configuration [ID 413484.1]

    As per 413484.1 "This is not supported due to issues reported in Bug 12702521"

    Is it possible to set Logical standby between two diff OS / Endian format ?

    Hello again;

    I thinking no for the same reason.

    When my shop moved from AIX to Linux we just install Oracle on Linux and patched it to the same level as the AIX. We created users, tablespaces, job etc in advance and then just used import/export to move the needed schema's. Data Pump make this much easier.

    Do a schema(s) compare and switch when ready. But in any event I don't believe Data Guard can help you. You mostly have a migrate issue.

    Please consider closing your question when complete.

    Hi mseberg,

    We are doing same - moving DB from AIX to Linux.

    We have databases ranging from 1TB to 20TB.

    So, export/import wont work directly.
    we will have to use transport tablespace with the file conversion using RMAN.

    We are trying to reduce / eliminate the downtime for critical databases.

    Thanks,
    DR

    Although the incremental TTS method looks great, it seems that it is presently only supported for Exadata as the target platform.

    At least this MOS Note says so:
    https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=1389592.1

    It contains an even more detailed description, by the way :)

    Kind regards
