Why oracle instance cannot perform following

    R Monga
Why oracle instance cannot perform following :

      1. Go to mount mode after open;
"alter database mount" when db is in open mode
      2. Why Oracle doesn't have restart command in database
      "alter database restart"
when it can perform these operation behind very easily
      3. Why sql prompt cannot repeat its command as terminal of linux can do
      Why not oracle

Oracle Restart improves the availability of your Oracle database. When you install Oracle Restart, various Oracle components can be automatically restarted after a hardware or software failure or whenever your database host computer restarts.

          Check
          http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10595/restart001.htm#CIHFJIJF

            Hi,
Startup force? (does a shutdown abort followed by a startup)
Take a look at rlwrap for being able to recall commands in sql plus - you'll need to get your unix/linux admin to install it. Works with all tools (not just sqlplus).

            Cheers,
            Harry

Because you have alter database close to do the same . Check the documentation to understand that how it works.

startup force is what probably you want to look at ?
              3. Why sql prompt cannot repeat its command as terminal of linux can do
              Why not oracle
Because one is O/S and another is a database, different softwares with different capabilties. If you do want to have such option, you may want to use something like rlwrap .

That said, not every feature is going to be there with just about every version of the oracle database. It may be possible that what you asking/expecting now is going to be ready for release in some future release. So either wait or send a feedback to oracle to include your desired feature.

I see so many why across.
Have you understood the importance of existing funtionalties ? If yes, then you probably try to utilize in better way instead of looking for why.

You really need to dig deep to understand how Oracle does its sequence before posing a question why this, why not that? You are basically asking to drive your car before starting it or you want to put your car in parking gear while driving. Think logically, there is reason why Oracle is works such a way and not the other way around. I suggest read Oracle documentation thoroughly.

Gentlemen u r not getting me what i want to say
after opening database is there any option to go to **mount state** without shutting down database
then giving command alter database mount, if not why ? oracle was not able to give this command

there is no logic of OS or Database command .everything is possible in oracle & by oracle
                    then
why oracle was not able to get this feature?,there must by logic in that

also is there any command of database restart
shut abort will not restart database we have to restart manually from nomount, mount, open state all three state
why oracle has not given three statement
                    alter database restart to mount,nomount,open;

You can try, google search "How To Enable SQLPlus Up And Down Arrow"

there is always & every where some logic behind
                        this what oracle had told
by reading what is written is not the solution
thinking what is not written & why it is not written is important
reading documentation & understanding is basic things

i m asking on thing v r three commands for starting database
                        rite
                        nomount mount & open
when v can give open cmd open it will perform all three satges rite
                        then
why oracle had not given the restart command to any state ,as it is it has to perform the same thing that it is performing above
logic is starting & stooping background process nothing more then that

when you write your own DB, then you can make it do what you deem appropriate.
Until then just accept what Oracle does (& doesn't do).

dnot u think oracle is not used not only in Production environment
it is also used in Coaching & teaching & standalone ,home envrment where
Creation of DB & working logically is not important in that
                            there matters commands

if you have access to oracle support, then probably you could ask them.

Would be good to see their reply.

No, there is not a such a way to restart Oracle with one command. You will have to shut it down first and then once shutdown you can do "startup" to start it up which will in background go throught nomoun, mount and then finally open stage. There is literrally a two commands to restart versus just one command that you are looking for. does that help?
