I created standby from primary database (oracle standard edition) and becauase of oracle standard edition i cannot ship archived logs from the primary side. And catalog archivelogs after mannually shipping it.
So i wanted to to get sequecne# from the standby side. But for the first time value of below query is null.
SQL> select trim(max(SEQUENCE#)) from v$archived_log where applied='YES';
The reason is that in the first query you get sequence# of the last applied archive log (it proves that it was shipped and applied), while the second one returns the next sequence# to apply, so standby will wait for archive log with this sequence# inside.
