Hello, thread watches (reply notifications) have never worked for me. My OTN account holds a valid and current address, but I never receive anything. Even when verifying my account details and clicking the "Please Verify Account" link, no mail arrives. How to remedy?
This is because your username is in a non-email format. Since your account dates back to 1999, non-email usernames were allowed. However, Jive can only send email to a valid email username.
I would suggest changing your username to an email address via MyProfile
Thanks brwalke_us - I suspected something like this as different pages inconsistently refer to either handle or email.
Why even bother with these two fields if an email is required anyway ?
Now, would changing my username to an email address result in everyone seeing it in clear?
Would the history of my posts be retained?
Thanks for clarifying.
No, your email would not be exposed unless you have it set to visible in your control panel
Your history will be retained as well, though there have been isolated incidents with that. It can be remedied with an account swap
brwalke_us, I appreciate the help but this is confusing - if I go to the "Edit User Profile" page, the username field is not editable, and the help blurb for the handle field recommends not to set it to an email address - what gives ?

if I login through otn.oracle.com then click the "Account" link, a different page appears which does allow changing the username. I've done just that, and re-verified my email. Perhaps the form presented from the forum/my profile link ought to mention that.
Can someone please reply just to check notifications work ? Thanks.

I see my "posts" count is now down to 1, and my registration date reset to today. Sigh...
Could someone please perform the suggested account merge which is "occasionnally" needed?
I'm not sure if it is clear to you or others reading this, but the handle is an arbitrary name that displays on your posts. You don't want to set it to your email in order to avoid spam and other unwanted contact. You probably don't want to make your email visible for the same reason. Some people prefer real names in handles because it gives an aura of truthiness, others have various reasons to remain anonymous. It's a good thing we have the choice. It can be an awful feeling when someone impersonates you online.
Good point, jgarry. It was not that clear to me as explained above until I realised there were three distinct notions (username, handle, email). That the forum SW needs the username to also be an email address for notifications to work did not help. And you cannot modify that through the forum itself, you have to adjust your OTN account (I hope this clarifies for whoever might read this post as a result of a forum search for a similar problem)
Hello " brwalke_us", it has been a week and the accounts have not been merged. Is this on someone's TODO list?
Also I noticed the "search" functionality in fora does not seem to like the accented character in my new handle, and cannot find recent posts made with it. Is this to be expected and should I revert to some plain-ascii version ?
