How Much tablespeces for 10 Schemas

    Maahjoor
      Dear all,

i have oracle database 10g installed.

      i have 10 different schema's. HRMS,INVENTORY,FINANCE etc.
i have 500 users, but it could grow, since it is a college system.

i have only one tablespace with one datafile.

i want to know that how much tablespaces i should use for these 10 schema to be a better approach?

one seperate tablespace for each schema?

i want to know the better and smart approach.

      Regards.

multiple tablespace adds nothing but clutter. They would gain you nothing.

start with 2 pizzas of the same size.
you cut 1 into 6 slices & the other into 12 slice.
which pizza could be eaten faster & why?

I don't think that there can be any way it can be told to you that how much space each of your tablespace would take with the objects in the different schemas growing. How about this that you let the tablespace's datafiles be autoextensible to a specific size and when it does happens, you add another data file. There is no ground rule that each schema must go into its own tablespace as well.

            Aman....

you who should decide which is better in this . Adding tablespace for each schema will give you easy management .

                UTTERLY ridiculous!
post SQL & results that quantify "easy management"?
I say one tablespace per schema adds complication without any measurable benefit.

                  In what sense?

well at least you will be able to manage each schema separately and know the growing of each schema , right ?

Schema is nothing but collection of objects which are nothing but segments within a tablespace. So if I put multiple schemas in one tablespace and check for its growth, why it would be a bad idea? Also what additional benefit one can get by monitoring the size growth of a schema ? There should be something not correct with what you said as in the default database created by DBCA also, there is only one tablespce for user objects users which contains all the schemas not one per schema. Your thoughts please?

                      Aman....

how does "manage each schema separately" translate to "easily manage"?

If you can not support what you proclaim to be true, then your claims should be ignored.
