I tried creating custom categories in the Action Information DF, but these categories are not picked up by the payroll archive process. Do I need to setup anything else after creating these categories?
What legislation are you working for ? and what Archival process are you running ?
If it is a seeded payslip archiver, unless a provision is made to pick custom segments from Action Information DF, it wont archive the data.
I'm working for US legislation and I'm using the seeded Payroll Archive program. I have an interface that picks the data from balances. Customer wants the data to be fetched from Payroll Archive process and has custom balances. So, I created categories similar to US STATE, US FEDERAL etc.. Is this nt feasible?
I'm afraid, the seeded report wont pick the data from your custom segments.
The seeded report is based on a PYUGEN process which then looks at a pl/sql package to process the data into Pay_action_information table.
For US the pl/sql package is - pay_us_action_arch
select * from pay_report_format_mappings_f
where report_type = 'XFR_INTERFACE';
But you can include balances/elements/messages under the payslip nodes on the BG. see below note for more info -

I guess the values are also archived in the table. Not sure of the context under which they're stored.
For EMEA localizations they're stored under -
Balances - 'EMEA BALANCE DEFINITION'
Elements - 'EMEA ELEMENT DEFINITION'
Messages - 'EMPLOYEE OTHER INFORMATION'
US architecture is slightly different.
You might have to do a sample run with some balances/elements and see how it is stored in the table.
But If it is shown on the payslip, I'm sure it first archives the data before pulling it onto the report.
