hello,

I try to install Oracle Express 11g x32 on Windows 8 Pro 64 bit...

The installation fail... aber there still a line in Programs and feautures on windows programs

"Oracle Database 11g Express Edition" 549MB 11.2.0

To "UNINSTALL" OPTION gives error " 1628 Failed complete installation"

I try to scann REGISTER with regedit.. no results..

the software "SmartPCFixer" under Windows 8 Pro gives no results.

the support staff for the SmartPCFixer said: wait until the release of this software is supported for Windows 8... nice response!

Any idea ?

    AFAIK,
No Oracle software is certified for Windows 8.
You might succeed installing VirtualBox; then again might fail too.

Workaround: copy an Oracle-Installation from XP to win 8.

Fiiledirectory and registry. (when copying from 32 bit to 64 bit, copy the registry into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Oracle)

this was successfull in my case.

No edition of 11.2 Database for 32-bit Win is certified on Win x64. Including XE. See the thread on this forum about the "missing" x64 version of XE.

In this case, no Oracle version is certified yet on Win 8 / Server 2012. The roadmap says 11.2.0.4 may be the first version for latest Windows.

The installation fail... aber there still a line in Programs and feautures on windows programs

What did you expect from trying to run unsupported combinations of software?

Time to wipe and re-install! (Next time perhaps use a vm if that was not the case.)

As XE comes without support (non-fee license), no updates or patches are to be expected. Actually, I believe the license agreement you entered before downloading XE specifically states there will be no patches.

You will have to wait and see if "12c" includes a XE version or not.

Meanwhile, you could get Oracle VirtualBox (4.2), Oracle Linux and XE for linux, and enjoy the possibility to achieve a fully certified and working installation!

1.Uninstall all Oracle components using the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI).
2.Delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE key which contains registry entries for all Oracle products by using regedit.
3.Delete any references to Oracle services/components in the following registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/. Looks for key entries that starts with “Ora” which are obviously related to Oracle.
    4.Reboot the workstation.
    5.Delete the ORACLE_BASE directory. (i.e C:\Oracle)
    6.Delete the C:\Program Files\Oracle directory.
    7.Empty the temp directory.
    8.Empty the recycle bin.
