Same version of Solaris etc. Moving to new hardware.
The application that runs on this server is easy enough to re-install but Im concerned about things like:-
1. Users/passwords/home directories
2. Cron jobs
3. Static routes
Is there ANY way to either export this sort of thing so that I can re-do on new server or is it going to be a manual process only?
I did think about maybe creating a flash archive of the entire system and doing a flash install from DVD for Solaris on the new machine? Not that straightforward though.
Why not create a flar off that system and import it in a zone.
So the next time you upgrade hardware you can simply import the whole zone into that system
This will also leave all crontab and password as it was on the current hardware.
And if it is Solaris 10 make sure you are running solaris 10U9 or 10 then you can even import this in a Solaris 11 server.
He no problem.
You can still migrate to Solaris 10U10.
Just create a flar off that system.
Make sure on the new system you have Solaris 10U10 and import it.
I think this will work.
I already have done this.
