Is there any other login utility for oracle database other than sqlplus?

    karthiksingh_dba
      Dear Legends,

I need to login remote DB writing a shell script where our DB is on a separate node, i have to test the script only with
      SCHEMA USERNAME
      PASSWORD
      HOSTNAME
      PORT NO
      SID/SERVICE NAME
these details. May be am wrong to ask this question but i need to login and check the requirement.

Is there any other anyway to login without sqlplus utility?

      Thanks in advance
      Regards,
      Karthik

            Hi

I could not understand, Why you not wont use the sqlplus ?

The sqlplus works fine in this case using the tnsnames in the separete node.

                    Hi,

Oops am very sorry I can't able to understand this small code of java to select the version of database with it login details. For this i have to use java compiler in my machine? if so i cant do it in a client machine.

I want to login remote db without os user account's from a SOA weblogic server but in a SOA Weblogic i think there is no oracle client so sqlplus utility will not work.

                    Regards,

This makes no sense. What do you think UNIX has to do with tnsnames.

There is nothing magic about sqlplus. It is just a small client app that connects to a database. The actual connection details are handled in the tns layer. When you install the oracle client software, sqlplus is just the tip of the iceberg. Anything else you find will either need exactly the same infrastructure (the rest of the oracle client software) or a jdbc driver.

Methinks you misunderstand the role that sqlplus plays in this.

The sqlplus works fine in this case using the tnsnames in the separete node.
                      I agree with you.

I don't know what you mean by "check the requirement" but it sounds like sqlplus is exactly what you need.

If actual task is to verify/test connection with given details, sqlplus should be a perfect fit, even no tnsnames needed:

                          sqlplus <USERNAME>@'<HOSTNAME>:<PORT NO>/<SERVICE_NAME>'

                          at prompt enter: <PASSWORD>

                          Ta da!

Did you search the machine for sqlplus executable?

If not found, How about putting Instant Client with IC sqlplus on a network share, and use that from the weblogic host?

Otherwise use the java connection test as suggested above, since weblogic server should have a jdbc client driver at least (perhaps in a lib file named ojdbc*.jar).

Yes which i can easily put in an crontab and schedule it. My logic and other sql codes are ready to work, except the login.

Without a oracle client is it possible to login to DB? Because i dont have the unix box OS level user access.

In some situations you can use ezconnect (google it). One way or another you need a client, whether you use sqlplus, toad, instant, some odbc thing or what-all.

Thanks for your response. I understood that sqlplus is the biggest utility to login but i just need to know whether is there any other options can be used in an shell script as an alternate of sqlplus.
