Hi all,

I'm having problems to delete obsoletes backups in a target 9.2.0.8.
I get error only when i execute a delete obsolete using a device type sbt_tape (I use TSM as media manager). If i execute a delete obsolete through a device type disk, it work fine.

Below, rman error:

RMAN> allocate channel for maintenance device type 'sbt_tape' parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo_pira.opt)';

allocated channel: ORA_MAINT_SBT_TAPE_1
channel ORA_MAINT_SBT_TAPE_1: sid=72 devtype=SBT_TAPE
channel ORA_MAINT_SBT_TAPE_1: Data Protection for Oracle: version 5.5.1.0

RMAN> delete obsolete device type 'sbt_tape';

RMAN retention policy will be applied to the command
RMAN retention policy is set to redundancy 2

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03002: failure of delete command at 12/05/2012 15:07:26

Using device type disk:

RMAN> delete obsolete device type disk;

RMAN retention policy will be applied to the command
RMAN retention policy is set to redundancy 2
no obsolete backups found

I enabled debug and got this stack trace:

    Hello;

    I think you need both channels

    This

    allocate channel for maintenance type disk;

    and what you have already.

    RMAN-06099 is a generic error. I'm think the channel is not it, some sort of version conflict between the RMAN packages and the target database is more likely.

    Best Regards

    Hi mseberg,

    I did, but i got same error:

    RMAN> allocate channel for maintenance type disk;

    allocated channel: ORA_MAINT_DISK_1
    channel ORA_MAINT_DISK_1: sid=53 devtype=DISK

    RMAN> allocate channel for maintenance device type 'sbt_tape' parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo_pira.opt)';

    allocated channel: ORA_MAINT_SBT_TAPE_2
    channel ORA_MAINT_SBT_TAPE_2: sid=143 devtype=SBT_TAPE
    channel ORA_MAINT_SBT_TAPE_2: Data Protection for Oracle: version 5.5.1.0

    RMAN> delete noprompt obsolete;

    RMAN retention policy will be applied to the command
    RMAN retention policy is set to redundancy 2

    Hello again;

    I'm think the channel is not it, some sort of version conflict between the RMAN packages and the target database is more likely.

    I would probably ask Oracle support for help resolving.

    Best Regards
