        Everything below seemed ok from the begining i have looked in them several times:
        [oracle@rndmain dbs]$ tnsping rndstdby

        Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias

          There are no services with Ready status, It should be as below. Register oracle service with listener manually "SQL> alter system register" and then retry.
          Service "PrimdbSBY1" has 2 instance(s).
            Instance "Primdb", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
            Instance "primdb", status READY, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
          Also modify your listener for even dynamic registration, You can change below as per your environment.
          SID_LIST_LISTENER =
              (SID_DESC =
                (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
                (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1)
                (PROGRAM = extproc)
              )

                (GLOBAL_DBNAME = <> )
                (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1)
                (SID_NAME = RNDSTDBY)
              )

            Hi CKPT,

            Thanks a lot for your assistance and patience.

            Its on now, a simple reboot did it.
            I am not sure what went wrong, i have configured data guard for 5/6 times in solaris, linux and windows server but didnt face this problem anywhere before.

            After reboot this became ok but my question is why a reboot was required and solved it?
            It could be there were hung processes.

            the listner status showing UNKNOWN now but it ok:
            [oracle@rndstdby ~]$ lsnrctl status

              Your standby database had to be made aware of the newly created password file. As said earlier, you had to bounce the standby database.

              If you feel that your question has been answered, then please consider closing the thread by providing appropriate points.

                Hi Rao,

                I did bounce the standby database but it failed to resolve, the problem resolved after i rebooted the machine.

                Thanks,
                Adnan
